I’m laying on my bed, trying to survive the heat. I haven’t had the computer on for several days, since it makes it even warmer in here.
So, this is being sent from my phone. I’m thinking of adding a similar category image to what I have for Swedish entries, for the phone. That way, I don’t have to explain that I am posting from phone every time.
Well, this entry has to do with books. I’m currently reading two books, which annoys me. I dislike reading several items at once, since that could possibly have me mix the stories up. It’s more or less inevitable though, because one of the books is published in the daily newspaper, so I can only read a small part per day. I guess I could save all pages and read them all at once at the end of the summer, but I can’t be bothered. The other book is a physical one that I got for free from a bookstore. They were sending the book out for free, and I figured I should order it, despite never having heard of it.
I’ll give my thoughts so far on the books (I’ve read about 20% in both of them)
Den Dubbla Tystnaden (The Double Silence)
by Mari Jungstedt
This is the book that has been split up for a daily read. It’s about three couples that go to “The Bergman week” on the island where famous director Ingmar Bergman lived. After 14 chapters, that’s all that has happened.
It’s well-written, but I think there are too many details to bring the story forward. A bit slow. Hopefully it evolves.
Fantomerna (The Phantoms)
by Klas Östergren
So far, I haven’t understood what it’s about, but I’m sensing I will in the next chapter. I think this book is considered a classic, which was my main inspiration for reading it. That, and the fact that it was free.
That’s all, and I just realized this was a really damn boring entry. Blame the heat.

Really shocking to read that Michael Jackson has passed, at the age of 50.
I’ve always been a fan of Jackson, and as late as yesterday I was browsing YouTube for videos of him dancing.
Sad times indeed, and may he rest in peace.

Just finished season 3 of Dexter. Good stuff as usual.
I saw 36 episodes in 8 days, that can’t be healthy. Only LOST comes close to that for me.
Next season starts september 27th!

I thought watching one season in 5 days was damn fast, but I guess I had more capacity. Just finished season 2, which I started watching yesterday (along with the last two episodes of season 1).
I’ll take the night off from Dexter and begin season 3 tomorrow or something.
This show is good!

I’d like to wish everyone a happy Midsummer’s Eve!
Here’s an excerpt from Wikipedia:
In modern Sweden, Midsummer’s Eve and Midsummer’s Day (Midsommarafton and Midsommardagen) were formerly celebrated on June 23th and 24th, but since the 1950’s on the Friday between June 19th and June 25th and the following Saturday. It is arguably the most important holiday of the year, and one of the most uniquely Swedish in the way it is celebrated, even if it has been influenced by other countries long ago. The main celebrations take place on the Friday, and the traditional events include raising and dancing around a huge maypole. One typical dance is the frog dance. Before the maypole is raised, greens and flowers are collected and used to cover the entire pole.
Regarding the “maypole”, Wikipedia again:
In Sweden and Swedish speaking parts of Finland, the maypole is usually called a midsummer pole, midsommarstång, as it appears at the Midsummer celebrations, although the literal translation majstång also occurs. The traditions surrounding the maypoles vary locally, as does the design of the poles, although the somewhat phallic design of a cross with two rings is most common. Common in all of Sweden are traditional ring dances, mostly in the form of dances where you are alternating dancing and making movements and gestures based on the songs, such as pretending that you are scrubbing laundry while singing about washing, or jumping as frogs during the song Små grodorna (”The little frogs”). The ring dancing is naturally mostly popular with small children.
I was at my grandmother’s today and had a great lunch and dessert. Here are two pics from the event:

Swedish meatballs! For dessert we had strawberries and whipped cream.
The radio was on when we ate, and this historian was talking about Midsummer traditions. It’s originally a celebration of fruitfulness and fertility, apparently. He then talked about the maypole looking like an erected penis, and its attached rings resembling female “good stuff”. That’s a direct translation of his wording. He also said that the only thing missing is the motion.
Maybe I just have imagination difficulties, but I cannot see a resemblance between Midsummer’s Eve and tit fucking.
Over and out.

I just finished watching season 1 of Dexter (saw the first episode 5 days ago), and I’m really excited about the following seasons.
Not sure why I didn’t get around watching it until now, but I think it’s because I thought it was just another CSI-ish show. Turns out this show had a red thread through out, which really caught me.
When I’ve finished watching season 2 and 3 of Dexter, I’ll jump on Fringe.
I’m guessing Dexter is my Prison Break replacement.
